John A. Tamming Etymology Award for 2015
John Tamming would like to congratulate the recipients of the John A. Tamming Etymology award for 2015.
Below is the award letter.
Re: West Hill Secondary School and O.S.C.V.I. and Saugeen Secondary School and St. Mary’s Secondary School Scholarship 2015
Congratulations on your achievement.
As you know, the Tamming Law Scholarship is awarded to the student who best possesses an aptitude for oral and/or written advocacy and argument (etymology) and also presents an avid interest in local and world history.
Etymology is defined as ‘pleading or arguing for a cause’ and is the backbone of the legal profession.
Oratory skills and the art of speaking in public are critical to any professional in their career. Winston Churchill, one of the finest orators ever, once said “All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word; freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope.”
It is my hope that these skills will lead you to success in your chosen field of study and your future endeavors. We wish you all the best.
John A. Tamming

Tamming Law Is Proud to Support the Owen Sound Poet Laureate
The Owen Sound Little Theatre (OSLT) is pleased to announce the selection of Chatsworth-area poet Terry Burns as Owen Sound’s fourth Poet Laureate. Chosen from an impressive field of applicants, Terry Burns is a prolific writer. She has written novels, short stories, essays, non-fiction works and poems that capture the imagination and resonate with the Owen Sound community. Over the years, she’s contributed many pieces to Mosaic and served as coordinator of the Words Aloud Spoken Word and Storytelling Festival.
Terry says she is fascinated by the way poetry is practiced in everyday life. “We forget about the fact that people continue to practice it every day in a populist way—things like rap and hip hop.”
As Poet Laureate, she looks forward to writing more poetry about Owen Sound, giving public poetry readings and working with other local poets. “As I explore my own poetry, I also want to reach out to poets around the region and explore together.”
Read poems written by Terry Burns and learn more about The Historic Roxy Theatre and OSLT by visiting their website.
Tamming Law Sponsors the Owen Sound Cultural Awards’ Emerging Artist
Tamming Law is proud to once again support the Owen Sound Cultural Awards ceremony. This year’s Emerging Artist award was given to Leah Mathies, a true talent. The award was given to Miss Mathies following the release of her June 2013 EP entitled ‘Mesmerized.’ Miss Mathies has opened for such acts as Beverley Mahood, Jamie Warren and many other CCMA artists at the Orillia Opera House. Her music is a catchy blend of beautiful vocals and lyrics that explore deep social issues to create a truly unique, truly mesmerizing sound.
“I’m thrilled to receive the Emerging Artist award for 2014 and for the encouragement this has given me to keep pursuing my dreams,” she said.
John Tamming is proud to once again sponsor the Emerging Artist award at the 2015 Owen Sound Cultural Awards. The prize will be given on February 15, 2015.
Tamming Law Supports Sydenham Community School Breakfast Program
Tamming Law is proud to support the Sydenham Community School’s breakfast and snack program. A team of volunteers prepares food every morning for almost every student in the school to enjoy, whether in breakfast club or on a tray delivered straight to the classroom. Healthy snacks build healthy minds! The school’s program also provides snacks during the day to students who have little or no lunch.
In May 2014, the school awarded John Tamming and his team with a Certificate of Appreciation for Tamming Law’s donations.
